ORIGIN STORY

Gahiji is from the planet Kirinyaga in the 31st Century.

When his super tracking abilities emerged, Gahiji spent many years tracking in the outer worlds. He considered himself to be possibly the best tracker alive, until he met the Legionnaire Dawnstar, who bested him. Seeking to become as good as, if not better than Dawnstar, Gahiji enrolled in the Legion Academy. There he hoped to learn how to better use his abilities and perhaps someday join the Legion of Super-Heroes as Dawnstar had many years ago. While a student at the Academy, Gahiji adopted the code name Mwindaji.

While Otaki was still a student, she and fellow student Mwindaji were secretly recruited onto a rescue team organized by her teachers Chuck Taine and Luornu Durgo along with the Legionnaire Star Boy. Their mission was to rescue the Legionnaires Brainiac 5 and Dream Girl from the Dominators. On the mission, Mwindaji used his powers to quickly locate the captive Legionnaires on the Dominators' planet, and to locate Brainiac 5's stolen force shield belt.

After the mission, Luornu Durgo complimented Mwindaji on surviving the mission before he returned to the Legion Academy.

One of the newest Legionnaires to appear in the comics, Gahiji still belongs to the Legion Academy. All his stats are my personal approximations to what I've read from the comics. Mwindaji, in Swahili, is hunter; Gahiji, in Egyptian, means the same. Character revised according to rules presented in ICONS Great Power book. Streamlined, once again, according to ICONS Superpowered Roleplaying: The Assembled Edition.

ORIGIN STORY

Bina Nawoti is a telepath from Earth in the 31st Century.

When Bina's telepathic abilities emerged, she traveled to Titan to study under Doctor Aven, who had trained the Legionnaire Saturn Girl. While there, Bina learned that she is not as powerful as most Titanians, but she has far superior range.

After her studies were complete, Bina enrolled at the Legion Academy and adopted the code name Otaki. There, she studied in how to use her powers in a team environment, hoping to one day graduate to the Legion of Super-Heroes.

On the mission, Otaki used her powers to boost Star Boy's confidence, ultimately boosting his powers and saving their lives until Mon-El and Ultra Boy arrived as reinforcements.

After the mission, Luornu Durgo complimented Otaki on surviving the mission before she returned to the Legion Academy.

I've given Otaki a degree of Power Specialty to depict her greater range control of her telepathy. Converted characters, most of the times, unavoidably exceeds the 45-point limitation that the ICONS Superpowered Roleplaying Game core book recommends. Character created according to rules presented in ICONS Great Power bookStreamlined, once again, according to ICONS Superpowered Roleplaying: The Assembled Edition.

ORIGIN STORY

Thunder is the super-powered alter-ego of a young girl from the planet Binderaan, circa 9,000 A.D. (when she finds herself in the 30th century, she exclaims that she's 6,000 years in the past). The power of Shazam is bestowed upon Thunder not by the wizard Shazam himself, but his successor Captain Marvel. By the time of Beck's life, Captain Marvel has become a bearded old man. As with her predecessor Captain Marvel, Jr., whenever Beck invokes the name "Captain Marvel", she is struck by magical lightning, bestowing upon her all the powers of the Marvel Family.

While Thunder possesses vast superhuman powers, CeCe Beck is an ordinary 90th-century girl. If tricked into saying her magic words while in superpowered form, she loses all her powers until she can say them again; conversely, if her unpowered form is prevented from saying the words, she has no access to her powers. Solomon's Wisdom can only assist Thunder with problems whose solutions are relatively timeless. Sizing up someone's moral character, throwing a punch, or solving math problems are easy, but this power is of no help when programming a computer or piloting a plane. Aside from her physical powers, Thunder has exceptional photographic recall, great mental acuity, and superhuman perception, insight, and judgment. She has access to comprehensive knowledge in many areas, including basic sciences, most human languages, and more.

After a mission to the 20th century, Thunder is sent to the 30th century, when pro-science terrorists attack and destroy the Rock of Eternity, a major source of all magic. After subduing some of the terrorists with the help of members of the Legion of Super-Heroes she is offered membership, which she accepts while continuing her mission to collect all the scattered pieces of the Rock.

Soon after the Rock is restored, the Legion come under intense pressure and negative sentiment from the rest of the galaxy. CeCe takes this opportunity to return to her own time, and has not been seen since.

CeCe Beck's name is derived from that of Captain Marvel co-creator C. C. Beck, just as Binderaan is from Otto Binder. ORIGIN STORY

The young girl from the 30th century who would be come to be known as Lamprey started life as a normal Earth girl known as Tayla Skott. After her uncle performed less than legitimate experiments on her, she was anything but normal. Though the only goal of the experiment was to graft gills to a human being, Tayla had in addition bright green skin and the ability to store and project electricity. Wanting to use her powers for good, she tried out for the Legion of Super-Heroes.

During her tryouts she met Nightwind, Crystal Kid and Blok, other potential recruits at the event. When the Legion decided to have them wear their special flight rings and go out on a mission with them, it was to see their capacity on a field assignment. Thinking that the mission was only a test and not real, Lamprey, Nightwind and Crystal Kid were easily defeated by the villains known as the Starburst Bandits. Blok, however, stopped the criminals and also won membership into the Legion.

Lamprey, Crystal Kid and Nightwind trained with Wildfire. After Wildfire trounced them in a sparring match, he confided in the three his true tragic past. A past he had not shared with other members of the Legion. Lamprey grew to greatly admire Wildfire, and decided not to give up.

Lamprey applied to the Legion Academy along with her future best friend, Nightwind. Together they worked alongside their classmates, and over time Tayla seemed to develop a bit of a crush on the Legion Academy instructor, the Legionnaire Wildfire. Once, when Laurel Kent and Comet Queen were bad-mouthing Wildfire, both Lamprey and Nightwind attacked the two in defense of their mentor.

She participated in training missions with the Academy until it closed. Afterwards, she moved on to teaching a new generation of galactic defenders at the United Planets Militia Academy.

ORIGIN STORY

In the 30th century, Jedediah Rikane was a student in the Legion Academy, a training program developed and financed by the United Planets super-team - the Legion of Super-Heroes, based on Earth. Jed was born with control over his body's density, an ability that gives him super-strength, partial invulnerability, and purple skin.

He remained at the Academy for many years, taking part in several training missions and waiting patiently for a chance to tryout for the Legion of Super-Heroes. Jed would even stand ready to back up the Legion when necessary, helping friends in need, and pestering whomever necessary to get a tryout with the Legion. He finally got his shot in 2986, but he was rejected, and though he stayed at the Academy, he lost any hope of being a Legionnaire at that time. He decided to stay at the Academy anyway, participating in many more training missions and sessions.

Jed was born a mutant with particular control over his body's density which as he gains mass his physical attributes increase dynamically. This mass altering property to his powers causes a few specific effects including the ability of superhuman strength, a moderate amount of invulnerability, and a purple skin tone.

One of the characters I've never understood why he couldn't make it to the Legion fold. Different power, great potential for characterization (a purple bisexual humanoid in the team, no less!) but even so, he was demoted, most of the times, to a secondary position. ORIGIN STORY

Bobb Kohan was a young boy on a family picnic when his power to create crystal or transmute other objects into crystal surfaced. He tried out for the Legion as Crystal Kid, but was rejected. Upon the suggestion of Wildfire, he enrolled in the Legion Academy along with fellow rejects, Lamprey and Nightwind.

During the so-called Five-Year Gap, Crystal Kid finally became a member of the Legion, the last official graduate of the Academy to do so (other former students would join, but after the Academy was shut down). Upset when the Academy was shut down, he drifted around for a while, until Polar Boy found him on Mars and offered him membership. He was willing to join, but not overly enthusiastic. When Black Dawn resulted in the disappearance of Wildfire, his closest Legion friend, he quit and returned to wandering. He decided that fomenting dissatisfaction with Earthgov was a necessary service, and began publishing anti-Earthgov leaflets and newspapers. But the Dominators who were now secretly running Earth captured him and performed experiments on him. He was rescued years later by Danielle Foccart. He stuck with the Legionnaires on Earth until the end of the planet was liberated, and helped with its evacuation, but was not re-drafted into the team. He instead joined former Legion of Substitute-Heroes members as part of the United Planets' security force.

After neither the Reboot nor the Threeboot does Crystal Kid appear to exist.

After Infinite Crisis, Crystal Kid's original history has more or less been re-established. He graduates from the Academy after years of study, but is not offered Legion membership.

Jimmy Olsen, famous as one of Superman's best friends, has risen over the years from office boy to cub reporter to one of the top reporters for Metropolis' Daily Planet newspaper.

While exploring the reaches of outer space, Superman discovered an old chest and brought it back to Earth. He showed it to his friend Jimmy Olsen, and upon examining the contents, they discovered a vial of green liquid. Jimmy's clumsiness got the worst of him and he spilled the alien liquid onto himself. The fluid temporarily altered Jimmy's genetic structure, giving him great physical elasticity. Excited by his newfound powers, he decided to adopt the heroic alias Elastic Lad.

Upon passing an initiation test, Olsen was inducted as an honorary member of the Legion of Super Heroes, in his role as Elastic Lad.

One of the silliest origins ever, although the power set is a nice addition to the Legion fold. Character revised according to rules presented in ICONS Great Power book. Streamlined, once again, according to ICONS Superpowered Roleplaying: The Assembled Edition.

ORIGIN STORY

Tellus is a Hykraian, an aquatic species from Hykraius, a methane world, and is one of the few of his species that have chosen to leave their planet. Taking employment on an interstellar freighter, Tellus heard of the Legion of Super-Heroes and decided to learn more about it. Arriving on Earth, he applied for and was accepted into the Legion Academy based on the highly skillful control he had of his native telepathic and telekinetic powers. Upon graduation, Tellus applied to the Legion at the same time that Saturn Girl announced her assumption of reserve status. Having a need for the telepath on the team, as well as his other powers, gained him Legion membership.

Tellus is one of the few non-human members of the Legion of Super-Heroes. His can be somewhat uncoordinated due to his physical bulk, and finds human/humanoid social customs confusing, but he is totally devoted to the Legion and his role in it.

Tellus was the second non-humanoid Legionnaire, after Quislet. Steve Lightle must have something about it. ORIGIN STORY

Quislet, whose real name was an unpronounceable glyph, was a microscopic energy-being from the alternate dimension of Teall (pronounced "tee-AWL"), who flew around in a tiny spaceship. The Teallian civilization had devoted all its resources into building the ship with which to explore reality; although he (Quislet was often referred to as "he," despite lacking gender, or, indeed, physicality) told the Legion that he was an explorer selected by his people, the truth is that Quislet stole the ship and fled through an interdimensional portal. When he first arrived, Quislet attempted to offer his ”all-important talents” to the Science Police, but was declined. Stumbling upon a Legion open call, Quislet followed Brainiac 5 and a group of candidates to investigate a disaster caused by the Dark Circle. Quislet was able to emerge from his ship and "possess" inanimate objects, reshaping them on a second-by-second basis and thereby bestowing upon them mobility; however, these objects would disintegrate after, at most, several minutes of "possession", a process which was only accelerated if he abandoned the object prematurely. The only object not affected by this phenomenon was Quislet's ship, because it was apparently not made from baryonic matter. Quislet helped fellow Legionnaire Wildfire form a solid corporeal body, eliminating his need for a containment suit for a short time.

Practically nothing is known regarding Quislet’s past, his home, or his people. He remains hidden within his small exploration vessel, which has shielding that defies most scans, making it impossible to verify his morphology or even his gender.

Quislet is a curious, gossipy, fun-loving, and extremely egocentric individual. He communicates in a highpitched, annoyingly sarcastic voice through the voice synthesizer unit built into his exploration vessel. Quislet is also able to communicate through inanimate objects he is possessing by vibrating molecules to make sound. Despite his negative personality traits, Quislet is cooperative with his teammates and has a surprising knowledge of the normal universe.

I guess I had mentioned how I hate this character. I really do. There's nothing in it that can make me like it. In my games, Quislet only served to be a casualty, a starting point for a story. ORIGIN STORY

Oaa Tseldor was a young alien among the most recent class of students in the Legion Academy. He was a relative of Legion of Super-Heroes physician Dr. Gym'll, who was his doting and worrisome uncle. Oaa was one of several born to the fourth litter of Gym'll's sister.

As Variable Lad, Oaa's meta ability allowed him to acquire practically any super power he could desire one at a time. It was hinted that these power changes were random, though Variable Lad at times did demonstrate a cognizant choice in abilities he was summoning. During the course of his tenure at the Legion Academy, he appeared to be limited to assuming only physical abilities. Whenever Variable Lad adapted a new power, his physical form also mutated into a state that capitalized on the ability. No known limitation was placed on the length of time he could assume a form.

While kind and studious, Oaa was often excluded from many of his classmates' extra-curricular activities. Despite this, he cared a great deal for his friends and even gave his life to save them while battling Cosmic King. When the villain threatened to transmute his teammates to dust, Variable Lad attacked with a reflective form that killed him but also bounced the fatal attack back on Cosmic King. His death prompted fellow classmate Gravity Kid to resign from the Academy to pursue his personal life.

ORIGIN STORY

On Extal, young Grava grew impatient while acid rain fell regularly. In her race, she looked somewhat diffferent from her parents, and she fantasized obsessively about the Legion, in particular, her crush on Bouncing Boy. To hasten things along, she decided to duplicate Star Boy's origin and bathe herself in a comet. It was a success. When she emerged, her hair was replaced with a streak of ennergy and she had the power to fly, and to emit noxious gases. Soon Bouncing Boy came to nearby Quaal-III (where all inhabitants were colonizers).

Grava decided to impress him with heroic deeds of her own and she took off looking for the remains of the legendary native race of Quaal-III. Bouncing Boy tried to stop her and both got stuck in a volcanic lava vent. On Bouncing Boy's orders, she used her comet-gases to short out the vent's opening circuits, saving them from molten doom, and they were rescued when repairmen came to check the broken vents. He was impressed enough with her powers to invite Grava to enter the Legion Academy as Comet Queen, where she learned the basics of crime fighting alongside other trainees. She did very well in the Legion tryouts, and was heavily considered for Legion membership, but was in the end passed over for applicants with greater or more useful powers.

She made it halfway there when Cosmic Boy reorganized the Legion of Substitute Heroes and chose her to become a member. This team was meant to provide backup for the primary Legion team. This version of the Subs was short-lived, and after years at the Academy, she graduated with Shadow Kid and Mandalla, who both went on to non-Legion careers. But Comet Queen desired only Legion membership, which eluded her. When Stone Boy approached her to join the original Substitute Heroes, she accepted. When the moon Titan was destroyed, she arrived on the scene to find Ultra Boy possessed by Saturn Queen. The villainess removed most of Grava's recent memories completely. Over weeks, Tellus helped reconstruct some of her past, but all of her training was gone. She elected to re-enroll in the Academy.

Before she and her fellow Academy members ever graduated, they were awarded  membership in the Legion proper after the team experienced a great loss of members.

E. Davis Ester of the planet Touston was bad luck personified. He caused jinxes wherever he went. He took the name Calamity King and journeyed to Earth. When he first applied for membership with the Legion of Super-Heroes, he shook Starboy's hand, possibly causing Thom's eventual expulsion from the Legion. Calamity King was denied membership, due to the fact that he would be as much a hazard to the team as he would be to enemies.

In the alternate timeline of 5 Year Gap, Calamity King became a full-fledged Legionnaire. After his initial rejection as a Legionnaire, Calamity King drifted from job to job, causing disasters wherever he went. When the Legion was desperate for new members, Calamity King noticed that the Legion were accepting some former rejects. He reapplied to the Legion and was accepted.
