ORIGIN STORY

Born a mutant with the ability of short-range teleportation, Benn Pares learned to put his ability to use as a thief. Benn was so good that, prior to his first and last (so far) encounter with the Legion, nobody had ever heard of him. While attempting to steal the Miracle Machine from Legion HQ, he was captured. It is not known whether or not he has escaped from Takron-Galtos at this time.

ORIGIN STORY

Zaxton Regulus took a job at Metropolis Fusion Power's main branch, under the directorship of Derek Morgna, to be close to a power source a power source for his experiments with radioactive gold. As he grew more intensely involved with the gold, he also grew slopper in his work habits, neglecting several safeguards. When two young lab assistants made their monthly supply delivery, a careless accident caused an explosion which killed one boy and injured both Regulus and the other, Dirk Morgna. Regulus's anger at having his experiment ruined was compounded when he has fired by Dirk's father. Furious, he vowed to kill Dirk. He reprogrammed several of the power plant's robots to enter the atomic reactor, carrying the unconscious Dirk Morgna inside, but what was his revenge instead turned Dirk into Sun Boy. Regulus went into hiding, creating a suit of gold armour with tremendous solar powers, then resurfaced years later to set a trap for Sun Boy, only to be thwarted by the Legion of Super Heroes. Regulus escaped, defeated.

The armour's powers slowly irradiated Regulus until he controlled the power within himself, needing the armour only to absorb and fly (through space, inclusively). He then attacked Sun Boy, an attack which ended in his "death". His dying request to Sun Boy was to be thrown into Arion star — unknown to the Legion, the only star that could recharge Regulus's power. Regulus has since engaged in a number of attacks on the Legion, fueled by his obsessive hatred of Sun Boy.

ORIGIN STORY

Imagine you could have the genius of Da Vinci, of Archimedes, of Leibniz, of Shakespeare. More: imagine you could, just by touching someone else, take their intelligence, their wits, their will as yours. Sebastian Pope got that. A librarian in what is today's Elsewhere Metroplex University Campus, Pope was a man in his late sixties who, for a split second, shared the same dimensional coordinates with nearly all his multiversal selves, when Elsewhere came to being. One in a billion occurrence, Pope now was almost all he could be. Almost.

He soon discovered that, besides having now a superhuman intellect (cognitive abilties honed into extraordinary focus, he is able to concentrate on several lines of thought simultaneously, and even carry on a conversation while doing so), keen perception and iron will, he could incorporate anyone's mental attributes to his. He was also able to speak telepathically to his victims and, usually, control them, until they fully recover from his attacks. Wasting no time, he started using his powers to get rich. In a week, he was one of the thirty richest men in the world, the richest in Elsewhere. In a short while, he became a business tycoon, an unparallel lawyer (savvy in all areas of Law) and knowledgeable user of various forms of advanced technology.  Combined with his reduced need for sleep (rarely sleeping more than two hours a night), he is more productive in one day than an ordinary person would be in a month. Frustatingly, though, he wasn't satisfied with his physical attributes, because he was, in his own words, "caged in an old body". However, his powers granted him an extreme delayed aging process.

Not satisfied with his condition, as soon as he established his financial empire, he started a quest to discover how he could get younger again. It hasn't proved impossible, so all he had to do is finding out how to achieve that. Being Elsewhere a crossroad of possibilities, and full of ultrahumans like him (possibly with some chronal powers), Sebastian Pope spares no effort in getting whatever he wants. And although it doesn't happen often, when he loses, he tends to take it out on everyone around him. Additionally, he also becomes obsessed with the person he lost to until he gets a rematch and wins.

Sebastian Pope's thirst for knowledge ensures that no realm of human study is long neglected. His experience and keen intellect make him a formidable opponent. Given sufficient information, he is capable of predicting and preparing for nearly any eventuality. His resources and his influence are both virtually unlimited.

Another villain without a costume. I guess it's because wickedness mostly comes in normal clothes. Adversary is a very powerful villain, and his points show that. My take on types like Kingpin, with a twist: envy is his driving force. QUALITIES

Points: 41

ORIGIN STORY

Codename: T.H.O.R. (Tactical Humanoid Organic Replicant) is another creation of C.R.E.S.T. (Center for Research in Electronics, Space and Technology), now aimed at counteracting Ultiman, as well as providing the army with stronger, albeit expendable, corps.

Codename: T.H.O.R. isn't an individual, but a series of clones. The clones look exactly the same: a sturdy physical and mental specimen, always bald. They also have slightly enhanced reaction time, heightened resistance to damage and unyielding resolve, prefering to die to capitulating. The clones are usually imbued with skills and knowledge specific to their individual mission. Their greatest power, though, lies in their neuro-mimetic enclaves, which allow them to duplicate any action they see. They can learn an incredible amount at amazing speed, picking up skills, languages, fighting techniques, etc, in no time at all. So far, they have the combat engrams of world's best boxers in their neural enclaves (because of the prolonged hours watching a sports TV channel). Each Codename: T.H.O.R. is a polymath ("a person of great and varied learning"),

Codename: T.H.O.R. is usually seen carrying out his missions alone,  yet in very rare occasions two or three individuals (up to five, in catastrophic, world-shaking situations) work together. It's not because they are expendable that they are cheap, so, it's more an economic, rather than tactical, decision.

It was originally thought to be a villain, with Ability Boost, but thanks to +Steve Kenson Power Mimicry was brought to play in order to keep the character's rationale. It should have been level 8 — which I deemed unnecessarily high, since it's about Specialties. Particularly satisfying, the Stamina Only limitation gave a distinct touch to the character. Created according to the rules presented in ICONS Great Power book and ICONS Superpowered Roleplaying: The Assembled Edition.

ORIGIN STORY

Drake Carruthers was Tristan Osiris (Nemesis) best friend. Or rather say, he's still Tristan's best friend. And he happened to be in Tristan's house when The One arrived. Bathed by the same interdimensional energies which granted his friend with amazing powers, Drake developed powers of his own. Unfortunately, he also got an unwelcome physical transformation: his body is now fully covered in white fur and his eyes are completely yellow, with no discernible pupils or irises. Fangs protrude from his lips, adding a bestial semblance to his former handsome face.

Along with his physical transformation, his coordination, reaction time, agility and strength was augmented tenfold. More importantly, he can now create miniature/childlike duplicates of himself capable of independent thought, feeling, and action, although they are telepathically linked and remain in existence for as long as he wills them to; his phenomenal physical attributes of strength, stamina, agility, coordination are also shared by his "Commotions", as he calls them. They also have nails which are actual short, hardened retractable razor sharp claws, very similar to a cat's. The maximum number of "Commotions" (as Bedlam call them) have been seventeen at one given time.

Still struggling with his awkward appearance, Bedlam, as Drake calls himself now, embarked on several adventures, almost always helping his friend Tristan.

To create Bedlam, I had to ask for help of Steve Kenson, who kindly replied to my inquiries about Servant power. Character created according to rules presented in ICONS Great Power book.

QUALITIES

Points: 60

ORIGIN STORY

Tristan Osiris was your run-of-the-mill guy, not special in any way, maybe except for his astounding knowledge of ultras, heroes and villains, and their powers and his funny, sharp wit. Working in a magazine specialized in ultras’ stories, he thought he had found his niche and that was that. But it wasn't. When The One arrived on Earth dimension, it happened to arrive in Tristan Osiris's house. The multiversal energies that accompanied The One's arrival showered Tristan, transforming him forever. Now, not an undistinguished fellow anymore, Tristan Osiris was one of the most powerful ultras in the multiverse.

Coupled with immense regenerative abilities, his body automatically adapts to any situation he is placed in, allowing him to survive possibly anything; he can spontaneously develop the powers appropriate to defeat any opponent for the duration of the battle, though he cannot choose which power to develop. His power somehow "senses" what will be most effective against a given opponent and generates an adaptation automatically. For the most part, his power concerns itself with more efficient methods of survival than Nemesis himself might choose; for example, instead of continually increasing his powers when taking punishment from a super-strong opponent, his body simply might teleport him away from the fight. Though he cannot actively control the change, he immediately/instinctively knows how his new abilities function and how to utilize them. The variety of his power manifestations appears to be almost limitless.

Additionally, he has the ability to subconsciously detect danger in his immediate area, hardly ever being caught off-guard. His "kinaesthetic awareness" is a mixture of Danger Sense, Nemesis power and Adaptation, adding to his Awareness only when he's being attacked. It is also of note that his power can work when dealing with non-immediately-life-threatening situations, such as rendering it impossible for him to get drunk by allowing his body to process alcohol much faster than the human norm.

Nemesis is an enthusiastic ultra: he's having the time of his life.

My favourite original character ever. Adaptable, relentless and merry at the same time. His namesake reveals exactly that: whoever or whatever he faces, he can ultimately handle them. Crafted in an extreme lucky break - when the dice were rolled, his powers were all determined in high levels, maybe as a compensation for his very ordinary abilities - it was one of the most satisfying creations since I've begun playing ICONS. Character created according to rules presented in ICONS Great Power book and ICONS Superpowered Roleplaying: The Assembled Edition.

Points: 75

ORIGIN STORY

Since his great-grandfather was saved by personnel from the Red Cross Society, Redford Cross's family devoted themselves to pay it back, with funds and personnel, to that organization. His grandfather and another six uncles served in several wars, all doctors, as well as his father, Redmond Cross, also famous for having created several medical patents. Redford knew no other life but growing up talking about medical conditions, treatment options, and medicine in wartime. When he graduated from a well-established University, there was no other option than enlist himself and save some brave soldiers. Or so it seemed.

When he was caught in the crossfire involving three rival factions in Sudan, his squad was almost completely wiped out. Rescued by some miracle, his almost lifeless body was brought back to the camp and soon sent back to his family. As soon as he arrived, his father's staff started the risky procedure which would save his life - and change it, at the very same time.

Using some very prototypical and hazardous techniques, they injected in Redford nanobots, which, theoretically would heal his wounds. The process was more than successful, it created an enhancile. Nobody knows if it was because of his genetic configuration or the procedures themselves (Redford studies it in his spare time), but one thing was for sure: Redford Cross now was more than cured, he could cure others, like he has never been able to do before.

His understanding of the living body is both intuitive and prepositional – that is, he needs not rationalize to understand what he is seeing, although he’s a skilled physician (he possesses sophisticated understanding of human anatomy, physiology and biology). Additionally, he has gained the ability to mess with the body functions of others. This can cause exceedingly nasty effects, and even death in some cases. He can cause or alleviate pain or severe damage, as well as painful boils and welts to appear on the flesh of his enemies. His most formidable power is the potent ability that allows him to greatly accelerate the rate of healing in other people (and himself) and to purge their body of various diseases and ailments. This ability requires him to have direct contact with those he wishes to heal.

He also has immunity to most diseases, and can pick them up and spread them in novel ways – making mononucleosis an air-borne disease, for instance – and can speed up or slow down the effects of diseases in others. Symptoms may crop up right away if he is around.

The side effect of the nanobots in his body is that his skin is chalk-white, while his hair and eyes turned blood red. He decided to pay homage to the Society to which his family devoted so much and had the nanobots to draw a red cross in his chest.

A character aimed to be a team player most of the times, Doctor Red Cross had higher rolled numbers, but they were trimmed down to suit the concept. Character created according to rules presented in ICONS Great Power book and ICONS Superpowered Roleplaying: The Assembled Edition.

ORIGIN STORY

Chance is an enigma. He appeared one day, on the outskirts of Elsewhere, coming from Escher-Bosch. The precinct is renowned by its oddities, and Chance seems to be just another one. However, he is a one powerful oddity, because of his tremendous, albeit whimsical, powers. Since then, he has tried to fight crime in very unconventional ways. Whatever other reasons or motives he has, he's not telling (even more so because he seems to be absolute mute). In those skirmishes he's involved, his stances are always eccentrically enigmatic: he uses his powers in clever ways, but those heroes who rely on groupwork or tactical attack go crazy, because Chance doesn't seem to follow any plan - or, at least, no one has ever acknowledged any.

Chance was thought to be an enigma to the heroes in Elsewhere. A symbol of his precinct, Escher-Bosch, where all matters of strange things happen, he's a sort of "deus ex machina": Chance comes to help the heroes when they're somewhat in disarray. ORIGIN STORY

A toy made alive! Paragon is the ultimate creation of a very imaginative boy, who loved playing with his superhero plastic dolls, since he was very young. Dylan Hunt was 13 years old when he discovered a severe brain cancer. The disease, told the doctors to his shocked and devastated parents, would give him few months or less, to live. During the excruciating months that followed, Dylan persevered in dreaming himself cured so much so that, in his death throes, he accessed a particular dimension where he was not only cured, but able to do wondrous things. When poor, cancer-stricken boy had his last breath, he also exhaled a powerful shining figure, which would coalesce into Paragon, imitating one of Dylan's old toys. Since then, for all purposes, Dylan Hunt has been Paragon (although his background is only known by very few people).

Paragon is unbelievably strong, although the upper limits of his strength are unknown. He has been observed stopping a runaway bus, destroying a giant robot with a single punch, and raising a sunken ship from the oceans off the Elsewhere coast. He is impervious to most forms of weaponry. Paragon has what was called “unbreakable body”, which means he doesn’t suffer ‘serious injuries’, because his body is utterly indestructible. He hasn't aged a day from the day he first appeared to the public, although his hair is completely white. He also does not require food or drink, though he apparently enjoys both. He is a very light sleeper, spending most of his nights reading (he's a voracious reader).

Paragon’s speed is just as impressive as his strength. He is capable of bursts of enhanced reflex action and the ability to move at incredible speeds by sheer force of will. And through manipulation of gravitons, Paragon is able to seemingly defy the forces of gravity and propel himself through the air unaided. Like many other ultramen with the same ability, Paragon's skill in flight allows him to perform just about anything he could on the ground in the air.

Paragon's bio-cellular matrix (an energy pattern that is linked to his body's electromagnetic field) is his most powerful asset, but also his greatest weakness. Its permeability to certain wavelengths makes Paragon vulnerable to magical energies whose chaotic electromagnetic or extra-dimensional signatures disrupt his resistance. Magic can have powerful and unpredictable effects on Paragon and his magical enemies have often proven to be the most dangerous.

Virtually unstoppable, able to defeat the likes of Hercules and Thor, about the only reason most of Paragon’s enemies aren't terrified of him is that he always takes great care to use only the power necessary to defeat a foe. In fact, magic notwithstanding, Paragon's greatest weakness in battle is his concern for sentient life. Many a villain has escaped Paragon by placing innocents in danger.

My take on Superman/Captain Marvel/Miracleman/Samaritan/M'Onel/Gladiator/Mister Majestic/Omni-Man/Supreme-like characters. Paragon is the ultimate ultrahero in our campaigns; he sets the paradigm, the example. Ultimately incorruptible, he's the force of good, the beacon which guides all the other heroes in Elsewhere. It was the first character I ever created in ICONS, just to see how well I could do it, so it's more than appropriate to have it here, to celebrate Eidolons' hundredth post. Character revised according to rules presented in ICONS Great Power book. Streamlined, once again, according to ICONS Superpowered Roleplaying: The Assembled Edition.

. Curiosity killed the cat: Lantern lives to solve mysteries.
. Being of solid, cohesive light.
. "Let there be Light!"

Points: 107

ORIGIN STORY

Lantern remains a mystery to be solved: is he a man that carries a lantern implanted in his chest, or a lantern that somehow became human? Cryptic as he is, he is not telling. What is known is that, in the same day that The One appeared, an ancient lantern, kept in a small Austrian museum, came to life, taking the appearance of a male human being. The museum curators had only known that the lantern was made by a blacksmith and so-called alchemist back in the 1700s, possibly a follower of  Anton Kirchweger.

His powers work on a principle of photo metabolism – his body’s cells work use photons as an energy source. This allows him to project a light in a given area. His body also acts as a solar battery – when he is in sunlight he has almost limitless energy reserves. He is also able to recover from fatal wounds if his body is exposed to sunlight. Fortunately this can be artificially duplicated; the sun isn’t necessary to activate his advanced metabolic processes. Light-based attacks don’t seem to affect his as much either (in fact, they heal him!). Lantern neither ages nor is affected by disease. He's a being of solid, cohesive light. His alternate form is permanent, and he cannot transform himself into light, only generate it. Also, he doesn't have the immunity to physical attacks associated to Energy Form characters.

He is the world most powerful postcog; by shining his light forth upon any place, he recreates, in 'hard light', the re-enacment of scenes which occured there. And he craves for solving mysteries, for finding unsolved murders, for unravelling enigmas. Lantern is considered the epitome of investigative detective, bordering the vindictive (although he's not as spiteful). His focus vary from cracking the puzzles of the natural world or the unraveling the enigmas of the human heart and mind, but whatever his obsession, ignoring a riddle requires great effort.

A character created based on a concept seen on Stormwatch stories from Warren Ellis and thus his monumental cost reflects his "powerhouse" status. Character created according to rules presented in ICONS Great Power book and ICONS Superpowered Roleplaying: The Assembled Edition.

ORIGIN STORY

Gahiji is from the planet Kirinyaga in the 31st Century.

When his super tracking abilities emerged, Gahiji spent many years tracking in the outer worlds. He considered himself to be possibly the best tracker alive, until he met the Legionnaire Dawnstar, who bested him. Seeking to become as good as, if not better than Dawnstar, Gahiji enrolled in the Legion Academy. There he hoped to learn how to better use his abilities and perhaps someday join the Legion of Super-Heroes as Dawnstar had many years ago. While a student at the Academy, Gahiji adopted the code name Mwindaji.

While Otaki was still a student, she and fellow student Mwindaji were secretly recruited onto a rescue team organized by her teachers Chuck Taine and Luornu Durgo along with the Legionnaire Star Boy. Their mission was to rescue the Legionnaires Brainiac 5 and Dream Girl from the Dominators. On the mission, Mwindaji used his powers to quickly locate the captive Legionnaires on the Dominators' planet, and to locate Brainiac 5's stolen force shield belt.

After the mission, Luornu Durgo complimented Mwindaji on surviving the mission before he returned to the Legion Academy.

One of the newest Legionnaires to appear in the comics, Gahiji still belongs to the Legion Academy. All his stats are my personal approximations to what I've read from the comics. Mwindaji, in Swahili, is hunter; Gahiji, in Egyptian, means the same. Character revised according to rules presented in ICONS Great Power book. ORIGIN STORY

Bina Nawoti is a telepath from Earth in the 31st Century.

When Bina's telepathic abilities emerged, she traveled to Titan to study under Doctor Aven, who had trained the Legionnaire Saturn Girl. While there, Bina learned that she is not as powerful as most Titanians, but she has far superior range.

After her studies were complete, Bina enrolled at the Legion Academy and adopted the code name Otaki. There, she studied in how to use her powers in a team environment, hoping to one day graduate to the Legion of Super-Heroes.

On the mission, Otaki used her powers to boost Star Boy's confidence, ultimately boosting his powers and saving their lives until Mon-El and Ultra Boy arrived as reinforcements.

After the mission, Luornu Durgo complimented Otaki on surviving the mission before she returned to the Legion Academy.

I've given Otaki a degree of Power Specialty to depict her greater range control of her telepathy. Converted characters, most of the times, unavoidably exceeds the 45-point limitation that the ICONS Superpowered Roleplaying Game core book recommends. Character created according to rules presented in ICONS Great Power bookStreamlined, once again, according to ICONS Superpowered Roleplaying: The Assembled Edition.

ORIGIN STORY

Thunder is the super-powered alter-ego of a young girl from the planet Binderaan, circa 9,000 A.D. (when she finds herself in the 30th century, she exclaims that she's 6,000 years in the past). The power of Shazam is bestowed upon Thunder not by the wizard Shazam himself, but his successor Captain Marvel. By the time of Beck's life, Captain Marvel has become a bearded old man. As with her predecessor Captain Marvel, Jr., whenever Beck invokes the name "Captain Marvel", she is struck by magical lightning, bestowing upon her all the powers of the Marvel Family.

While Thunder possesses vast superhuman powers, CeCe Beck is an ordinary 90th-century girl. If tricked into saying her magic words while in superpowered form, she loses all her powers until she can say them again; conversely, if her unpowered form is prevented from saying the words, she has no access to her powers. Solomon's Wisdom can only assist Thunder with problems whose solutions are relatively timeless. Sizing up someone's moral character, throwing a punch, or solving math problems are easy, but this power is of no help when programming a computer or piloting a plane. Aside from her physical powers, Thunder has exceptional photographic recall, great mental acuity, and superhuman perception, insight, and judgment. She has access to comprehensive knowledge in many areas, including basic sciences, most human languages, and more.

After a mission to the 20th century, Thunder is sent to the 30th century, when pro-science terrorists attack and destroy the Rock of Eternity, a major source of all magic. After subduing some of the terrorists with the help of members of the Legion of Super-Heroes she is offered membership, which she accepts while continuing her mission to collect all the scattered pieces of the Rock.

Soon after the Rock is restored, the Legion come under intense pressure and negative sentiment from the rest of the galaxy. CeCe takes this opportunity to return to her own time, and has not been seen since.

CeCe Beck's name is derived from that of Captain Marvel co-creator C. C. Beck, just as Binderaan is from Otto Binder. ORIGIN STORY

The young girl from the 30th century who would be come to be known as Lamprey started life as a normal Earth girl known as Tayla Skott. After her uncle performed less than legitimate experiments on her, she was anything but normal. Though the only goal of the experiment was to graft gills to a human being, Tayla had in addition bright green skin and the ability to store and project electricity. Wanting to use her powers for good, she tried out for the Legion of Super-Heroes.

During her tryouts she met Nightwind, Crystal Kid and Blok, other potential recruits at the event. When the Legion decided to have them wear their special flight rings and go out on a mission with them, it was to see their capacity on a field assignment. Thinking that the mission was only a test and not real, Lamprey, Nightwind and Crystal Kid were easily defeated by the villains known as the Starburst Bandits. Blok, however, stopped the criminals and also won membership into the Legion.

Lamprey, Crystal Kid and Nightwind trained with Wildfire. After Wildfire trounced them in a sparring match, he confided in the three his true tragic past. A past he had not shared with other members of the Legion. Lamprey grew to greatly admire Wildfire, and decided not to give up.

Lamprey applied to the Legion Academy along with her future best friend, Nightwind. Together they worked alongside their classmates, and over time Tayla seemed to develop a bit of a crush on the Legion Academy instructor, the Legionnaire Wildfire. Once, when Laurel Kent and Comet Queen were bad-mouthing Wildfire, both Lamprey and Nightwind attacked the two in defense of their mentor.

She participated in training missions with the Academy until it closed. Afterwards, she moved on to teaching a new generation of galactic defenders at the United Planets Militia Academy.

ORIGIN STORY

In the 30th century, Jedediah Rikane was a student in the Legion Academy, a training program developed and financed by the United Planets super-team - the Legion of Super-Heroes, based on Earth. Jed was born with control over his body's density, an ability that gives him super-strength, partial invulnerability, and purple skin.

He remained at the Academy for many years, taking part in several training missions and waiting patiently for a chance to tryout for the Legion of Super-Heroes. Jed would even stand ready to back up the Legion when necessary, helping friends in need, and pestering whomever necessary to get a tryout with the Legion. He finally got his shot in 2986, but he was rejected, and though he stayed at the Academy, he lost any hope of being a Legionnaire at that time. He decided to stay at the Academy anyway, participating in many more training missions and sessions.

Jed was born a mutant with particular control over his body's density which as he gains mass his physical attributes increase dynamically. This mass altering property to his powers causes a few specific effects including the ability of superhuman strength, a moderate amount of invulnerability, and a purple skin tone.

One of the characters I've never understood why he couldn't make it to the Legion fold. Different power, great potential for characterization (a purple bisexual humanoid in the team, no less!) but even so, he was demoted, most of the times, to a secondary position. ORIGIN STORY

Bobb Kohan was a young boy on a family picnic when his power to create crystal or transmute other objects into crystal surfaced. He tried out for the Legion as Crystal Kid, but was rejected. Upon the suggestion of Wildfire, he enrolled in the Legion Academy along with fellow rejects, Lamprey and Nightwind.

During the so-called Five-Year Gap, Crystal Kid finally became a member of the Legion, the last official graduate of the Academy to do so (other former students would join, but after the Academy was shut down). Upset when the Academy was shut down, he drifted around for a while, until Polar Boy found him on Mars and offered him membership. He was willing to join, but not overly enthusiastic. When Black Dawn resulted in the disappearance of Wildfire, his closest Legion friend, he quit and returned to wandering. He decided that fomenting dissatisfaction with Earthgov was a necessary service, and began publishing anti-Earthgov leaflets and newspapers. But the Dominators who were now secretly running Earth captured him and performed experiments on him. He was rescued years later by Danielle Foccart. He stuck with the Legionnaires on Earth until the end of the planet was liberated, and helped with its evacuation, but was not re-drafted into the team. He instead joined former Legion of Substitute-Heroes members as part of the United Planets' security force.

After neither the Reboot nor the Threeboot does Crystal Kid appear to exist.

After Infinite Crisis, Crystal Kid's original history has more or less been re-established. He graduates from the Academy after years of study, but is not offered Legion membership.

ORIGIN STORY

Jimmy Olsen, famous as one of Superman's best friends, has risen over the years from office boy to cub reporter to one of the top reporters for Metropolis' Daily Planet newspaper.

While exploring the reaches of outer space, Superman discovered an old chest and brought it back to Earth. He showed it to his friend Jimmy Olsen, and upon examining the contents, they discovered a vial of green liquid. Jimmy's clumsiness got the worst of him and he spilled the alien liquid onto himself. The fluid temporarily altered Jimmy's genetic structure, giving him great physical elasticity. Excited by his newfound powers, he decided to adopt the heroic alias Elastic Lad.

Upon passing an initiation test, Olsen was inducted as an honorary member of the Legion of Super Heroes, in his role as Elastic Lad.

One of the silliest origins ever, although the power set is a nice addition to the Legion fold. Character revised according to rules presented in ICONS Great Power book. Streamlined, once again, according to ICONS Superpowered Roleplaying: The Assembled Edition.

ORIGIN STORY

Tellus is a Hykraian, an aquatic species from Hykraius, a methane world, and is one of the few of his species that have chosen to leave their planet. Taking employment on an interstellar freighter, Tellus heard of the Legion of Super-Heroes and decided to learn more about it. Arriving on Earth, he applied for and was accepted into the Legion Academy based on the highly skillful control he had of his native telepathic and telekinetic powers. Upon graduation, Tellus applied to the Legion at the same time that Saturn Girl announced her assumption of reserve status. Having a need for the telepath on the team, as well as his other powers, gained him Legion membership.

Tellus is one of the few non-human members of the Legion of Super-Heroes. His can be somewhat uncoordinated due to his physical bulk, and finds human/humanoid social customs confusing, but he is totally devoted to the Legion and his role in it.

Tellus was the second non-humanoid Legionnaire, after Quislet. Steve Lightle must have something about it. ORIGIN STORY

Quislet, whose real name was an unpronounceable glyph, was a microscopic energy-being from the alternate dimension of Teall (pronounced "tee-AWL"), who flew around in a tiny spaceship. The Teallian civilization had devoted all its resources into building the ship with which to explore reality; although he (Quislet was often referred to as "he," despite lacking gender, or, indeed, physicality) told the Legion that he was an explorer selected by his people, the truth is that Quislet stole the ship and fled through an interdimensional portal. When he first arrived, Quislet attempted to offer his ”all-important talents” to the Science Police, but was declined. Stumbling upon a Legion open call, Quislet followed Brainiac 5 and a group of candidates to investigate a disaster caused by the Dark Circle. Quislet was able to emerge from his ship and "possess" inanimate objects, reshaping them on a second-by-second basis and thereby bestowing upon them mobility; however, these objects would disintegrate after, at most, several minutes of "possession", a process which was only accelerated if he abandoned the object prematurely. The only object not affected by this phenomenon was Quislet's ship, because it was apparently not made from baryonic matter. Quislet helped fellow Legionnaire Wildfire form a solid corporeal body, eliminating his need for a containment suit for a short time.

Practically nothing is known regarding Quislet’s past, his home, or his people. He remains hidden within his small exploration vessel, which has shielding that defies most scans, making it impossible to verify his morphology or even his gender.

Quislet is a curious, gossipy, fun-loving, and extremely egocentric individual. He communicates in a highpitched, annoyingly sarcastic voice through the voice synthesizer unit built into his exploration vessel. Quislet is also able to communicate through inanimate objects he is possessing by vibrating molecules to make sound. Despite his negative personality traits, Quislet is cooperative with his teammates and has a surprising knowledge of the normal universe.

I guess I had mentioned how I hate this character. I really do. There's nothing in it that can make me like it. In my games, Quislet only served to be a casualty, a starting point for a story. ORIGIN STORY

Oaa Tseldor was a young alien among the most recent class of students in the Legion Academy. He was a relative of Legion of Super-Heroes physician Dr. Gym'll, who was his doting and worrisome uncle. Oaa was one of several born to the fourth litter of Gym'll's sister.

As Variable Lad, Oaa's meta ability allowed him to acquire practically any super power he could desire one at a time. It was hinted that these power changes were random, though Variable Lad at times did demonstrate a cognizant choice in abilities he was summoning. During the course of his tenure at the Legion Academy, he appeared to be limited to assuming only physical abilities. Whenever Variable Lad adapted a new power, his physical form also mutated into a state that capitalized on the ability. No known limitation was placed on the length of time he could assume a form.

While kind and studious, Oaa was often excluded from many of his classmates' extra-curricular activities. Despite this, he cared a great deal for his friends and even gave his life to save them while battling Cosmic King. When the villain threatened to transmute his teammates to dust, Variable Lad attacked with a reflective form that killed him but also bounced the fatal attack back on Cosmic King. His death prompted fellow classmate Gravity Kid to resign from the Academy to pursue his personal life.

ORIGIN STORY

On Extal, young Grava grew impatient while acid rain fell regularly. In her race, she looked somewhat diffferent from her parents, and she fantasized obsessively about the Legion, in particular, her crush on Bouncing Boy. To hasten things along, she decided to duplicate Star Boy's origin and bathe herself in a comet. It was a success. When she emerged, her hair was replaced with a streak of ennergy and she had the power to fly, and to emit noxious gases. Soon Bouncing Boy came to nearby Quaal-III (where all inhabitants were colonizers).

Grava decided to impress him with heroic deeds of her own and she took off looking for the remains of the legendary native race of Quaal-III. Bouncing Boy tried to stop her and both got stuck in a volcanic lava vent. On Bouncing Boy's orders, she used her comet-gases to short out the vent's opening circuits, saving them from molten doom, and they were rescued when repairmen came to check the broken vents. He was impressed enough with her powers to invite Grava to enter the Legion Academy as Comet Queen, where she learned the basics of crime fighting alongside other trainees. She did very well in the Legion tryouts, and was heavily considered for Legion membership, but was in the end passed over for applicants with greater or more useful powers.

She made it halfway there when Cosmic Boy reorganized the Legion of Substitute Heroes and chose her to become a member. This team was meant to provide backup for the primary Legion team. This version of the Subs was short-lived, and after years at the Academy, she graduated with Shadow Kid and Mandalla, who both went on to non-Legion careers. But Comet Queen desired only Legion membership, which eluded her. When Stone Boy approached her to join the original Substitute Heroes, she accepted. When the moon Titan was destroyed, she arrived on the scene to find Ultra Boy possessed by Saturn Queen. The villainess removed most of Grava's recent memories completely. Over weeks, Tellus helped reconstruct some of her past, but all of her training was gone. She elected to re-enroll in the Academy.

Before she and her fellow Academy members ever graduated, they were awarded  membership in the Legion proper after the team experienced a great loss of members.
